EQ - is a tool that lets you adjust the volume of specific frequencies within a sound.

Think of yourself as a painter — the EQ is your brush. You make some colors in your painting more vibrant and saturated, while others you tone down. You highlight certain elements, bring them to the foreground, and draw attention to them.

In the same way, EQ allows you to emphasize specific frequencies in a sound. You can boost the highs to make something sound brighter, or you can reduce them — or even cut them entirely — to mellow things out.
Equalization is always about contrast and prioritization. When two sounds occupy the same frequency range at the same time, they “fight” each other for space in the mix, which often sounds unpleasant, cluttered, or muddy.
By reducing certain frequencies in one sound, you create space for another — helping both elements coexist in harmony.
Fun fact:
The first equalizers appeared in the 1930s — not for music, but for telephone lines! They were used to improve the quality of long-distance calls and were later adapted for audio production.
